also, what type of hospitality would you have on offer? If you could design a hotel, with any theme possible, how would you design it and why?
Who cares what the theme is as long as the rooms are clean, quiet and the beds comfortable. If you could design a hotel, with any theme possible, how would you design it and why?
I would design a hotel / hotel room that's more functional that Fab. I've both traveled a lot and worked in hotels, and I can tell you that decoration is nice, but it is often impractical. I'll give you a few examples:
1. A lot of hotels don't have light switches by the bed.
2. The TVs either don't pull out from their base and swivel or they don't pull out from the base far enough to be seen from any point in the room.
3. A lot of hotels have pedestal sinks or bathrooms that have little to no vanity room. That may be fine for a home, but not a hotel.
4. If there is a free breakfast it often unhealthy.
5. I stayed in a hotel recently that had a bedside radio with IPOD charger, CD player, AM/FM radio, headphone jack, and alarm clock. It didn't work. I just wanted to set my alarm clock; I don't need all those other happy things.
6. Hotels are moving away from blackout shades in rooms (because they're not trendy). Bad move. Have you ever tried to sleep on the road with a parking lot light shining through your window?
7. Bathroom fan switches are not separated from bathroom light switches. Why?
Not all of the above are true in 100% of hotels, but I have yet to find a hotel / hotel room that's just simple. It has a clean bed, place to put my stuff while I'm there, and healthy food. Hotel builders, developers, and investors seemed obsessed with bling and not about a guests' experience. And, that's just sad.
Sorry for my rant:) I really am a happy person:) Really:)
Retro! I just think velvet headboards and lava lamps would be so cool (:
