It depends on how much you want to spend, but if you are just going to Disney, stay on Disney property. If you don't want to spend a lot, stay at an All Star hotel, or the Pop Century resort. What is the best hotel to stay near Disney World?
I have to agree with Randy, 6 of you would be pricey anywhere. If you detailed what OVER the Summer means, you could spend a Years salary to hang out, and, no offense but how do you define BEST? It really is relative to what you intend for the lodging. If you won't spend much more than sleeping and showering, then Value lodging will be fine. If you want GLITZ then expect to pay.
THEN there is the issue of your family in W.G. and.or if you intend to even visit theme parks. Not very many High end accommodations exist on West 50, but then again, it depends on budget and what you expect. In any case in W.G. you'll be convenient to most anything you wish to do,,, two Coast lines, theme parks, Orlando, shopping, dining, etc.

Just my two ';sense';
In the park stay at a value resort. Children love the theming of the hotels, they have the Disney transportation system, and the price is right. I also have stayed twice at the Ramada Maingate West in Kissimee when I was there with a tour group. I really enjoyed the hotel a lot, but you'll either need to take their shuttles to the park (which I did not use because we had our own bus) or rent a car.
Summer (at least June and July) is incredibly busy.
I just wrote a site where among other things I recommend Walt Disney World hotels. I recommend the Polynesian if you can afford it, and Pop Century if you can't.
The reasons for these recommednations, plus views on your next best choices, begin in my ';Where to Stay'; page: http://yourfirstvisit.net/?page_id=18
Your group is also too big for one standard room. I have advice for large families on this page: http://yourfirstvisit.net/?page_id=22
Hope this helps!! Dave

2-3 bedroom condos which will hold all of you, 5 minutes from Disney. Will probably wind up costing $400-$500 for the entire week, including the $295 for taxes/fees.
With six people, I would stay in a condo or vacation home. Disney has villas onsite, but they are fairly pricey. Offsite, Windsor Hills is a beautiful development that is only 2 miles from Disney World. We have stayed there many times and we have been happy.
you should stay in a disney park hotel
it makes transportation easier
most of them are pretty cheap.
but if you choose not to stay there.
you don't even need to make resorvations
there are TONS of hotels in orlando
ive stayed at disney world hotels over 13 times
and they are great, i would recommend staying there
my favorite hotels were
carribean, polynesian, port orleans, and french quarter
im staying at the carribean in 3 weeks, but they all are gorgeous hotels
STAY IN A PARK AT DISNEY!!!! u can walk to the parks or u can take the buses to the parks. its so much easier than having to drive to the main entrance everyday. it takes less time to get to the parks. i would suggest a hotel near your favorite park. we just bought into the disney vacation club so we can stay in different hotels for less $$$$$. we are going for spring break at the saratoga springs hotel near downtown disney :)
Depends on your budget really. I would say stay in Kissimmee if your on a tight budget. If your not, then stay in a Disney hotel (on property) free transportation to the parks. But even around Kissimmee if doesn't take long to get there you just will have to pay the $10.00 for parking. I would check out Expedia or something like that for good deals on hotels. Whatever you do have a great Disney time. I'm in Kissimmee right now on vacation and going to Disney in the morning, so gotta get some sleep. Have fun !
Stay within Disney World! There's three ';All Star'; hotels that are just as affordable as any outside hotels if you're watching your budget. There's so many perks to being in a Disney hotel - lots more transportation into the park, special park entrance before the ';outside'; world or after park hours, and the atmosphere just makes the whole Disney experience complete. If it's a bit more costly than an outside hotel I'd still say it's well worth it.
route 192 and check personally.
you can also check out old town
